What in USA is called shrimp
The Brits and Aussies call prawns
It's just the tails of the same ugly creature
That has legs, eyes and sort of spindly horns

Scampi is the plural of scampo
It's the tail of the same sort of crustacean
In shrimp scampi recipes there's scampi OR shrimp
The title is a linguistic abomination
(used by an entire Nation in need of English education)

And while we're at it, why are prawns plural
And scampo always ends with an i
But it's always shrimp in the singular
Even when piled up high. Why?

Scampi are the tails of Norway lobster
Or Langoustine or Dublin Bay prawn,
Called, in Latin, by the scientists,
Nephrops norvegicus....yawn, yawn

Except that some have small claws and others don't,
Between shrimp, scampi, prawns, including tiger or king
There's no discernible or culinary difference
For all intents and purposes, they're the same thing
